Lenten Spirituality
2 sermons, preached 2014
During Lent 2014 we asked what spiritual discipline has to teach us about following Jesus. Over two weeks we considered the temptations Jesus faced in the wilderness and the discipline required for godliness — discovering that Lent's fasting and self-denial aren't ends in themselves, but training for a life more fully devoted to Christ.

Lent 2015 Dying to Live: The Cost of Discipleship
4 sermons, preached 2015
Lent 2015 was our season to sit with the hardest sayings of Jesus about what it costs to follow him — a pause in that year's Hospitable, Missional, Discipling Jesus journey to face its cost head-on. Each week brought a different challenge to easy faith: taking up our cross, walking away from the Rich Young Ruler's wealth, letting the dead bury their own dead, wrestling with doubt and emptiness, and facing Gethsemane's agony alongside Jesus. We arrived at Palm Sunday with a King who refused ego, and a Good Friday service of Tenebrae, sitting in the growing darkness before the light of Easter. To die to ourselves, we discovered, is the only way to truly live.

Not Against Flesh and Blood (The Spiritual Warfare of Lent)
1 sermon, preached 2020
As Jesus was about to start his earthly ministry, he was confronted by an evil Devil hoping to take him off the rails before he could even hit the trail. In our materialist world it's often hard to imagine the reality of a spirituality surrounding the air we breathe, but the Scriptures tell us we actually live and move in the midst of a cosmic battle. The hating Satan is the enemy of humanity; his goal is to make sure we never taste the good life intended for us by our Creator. We do not battle against flesh and blood, but thanks to God become flesh who shed his blood, we can see victory in our day to day lives by resisting the Devil and putting on the full spiritual armour provided in Christ.

Lent: Living On Borrowed Time [Spiritual Stewardship]
1 sermon, preached 2022
Everything we have comes from God - every second, every minute, every hour, every day. The dollars we receive are from the Lord. Each breath is a gift. Our joys and even our feelings of anger can be a part of God’s plan for us. Spiritual Stewardship becomes a priority. This Lenten season building up to Easter we will be exploring the many gifts that God has loaned to us during the course of our lives. He has lent us all of these things and so much more in order that we can steward them to enjoy life together and show his goodness to our world. We are truly following Jesus when we make sure we are disciplined in our use of these gifts to help show the Kingdom of God on Earth.

Walk With Jesus (Lent 2023: A Lukan Journey)
7 sermons, preached 2023
Each year as we follow Christ, the Church retraces the steps Jesus journeyed towards the Cross, where he died to free all humankind from our bondage to sin and Satan. As winter turns to spring, we walk with Jesus through the ancient stories told by Luke, immersing ourselves in his life to learn to live like he did. His heart and mission are on full display as he faces great obstacles on his path to save the world. Through his death and resurrection our lives are transformed, and we are able to traverse the earth here and now, walking the trail that he blazed.
