Lent 2015 Dying to Live: The Cost of Discipleship
4 sermons by Rev. Dr. Cyril Guerette in the series Lent 2015 Dying to Live: The Cost of Discipleship, preached 2015, with audio and a quote from each.
Lent 2015 was our season to sit with the hardest sayings of Jesus about what it costs to follow him — a pause in that year's Hospitable, Missional, Discipling Jesus journey to face its cost head-on. Each week brought a different challenge to easy faith: taking up our cross, walking away from the Rich Young Ruler's wealth, letting the dead bury their own dead, wrestling with doubt and emptiness, and facing Gethsemane's agony alongside Jesus. We arrived at Palm Sunday with a King who refused ego, and a Good Friday service of Tenebrae, sitting in the growing darkness before the light of Easter. To die to ourselves, we discovered, is the only way to truly live.
