Inspiration at Its Creation
All lyrics were spontaneously freestyled in prayer for either the benediction at FreeChurch Toronto, or invocation before class at Heritage College & Seminary.
Father, we have such a silly nation
that doesn't look for your spirit's illumination.
Indeed, understanding what we read
takes a lot of perspiration, but we thank you for
the Inspiration at its Creation.
And so today we ask that you would allow us
to keep our minds focused,
to realize that it's not a magic book of hocus pocus,
but it's a place, a thing that you wrote to us.
And so we must devote all of our efforts, Lord God,
at reading so that we're not Deaf like Leopards,
but we hear the words and let us be like your seers,
the ones who understand
that we need to stand in your plan.
And so we sing Hosanna grandly.
In all manners we give you praise
and raise your Name
and blaze it across the skies
to hear your people's cries.
I just pray that we learn to bomb your Psalms
so that we can help spread calm like napalm.
Let our palms not be filled with blood and crud.
But remember all you've done in your Son.
I pray that we learn to lament
when we feel like we're sinking with shoes of cement
into your river.
Please deliver us, save us from the snares
through our prayers.
Lord God, let us not be tares
but wheat that grow to your beat,
that taste sweet and nutritious, Lord God.
Don't allow the vicious to taste our bones.
Lord God, let us not be wasted and prone
to fall into a zone on the sidelines, Lord God.
Instead reside in our minds.
Bind us to your word.
Let us turn to your pages
when within our heart we feel raging.
Lord God, let your sage help us assuage.
Let your words have blurred all the pain.
Do not allow it to remain
but let us sing your holy refrains
of hallelujah and hallelujah.
In the name of your son Jesus, Amen.
