Is God a God of peace, or a God of war? Over four weeks we take on one of Scripture's most difficult questions: the relationship between religion and violence. We ask whether religion causes violence, and find Jesus held up as Peacemaker even where the answer gets complicated. We meet a reluctant war God who weeps over war and refused to let David build the Temple because of his "bloody hands." We compare Yahweh to the gods of the Ancient Near East and discover he is far less warlike than the culture around him — winning battles through feasts rather than weapons. And we wrestle with the most violent-seeming text in the New Testament, the warrior Jesus of Revelation, discovering that his peace comes from the sword in his mouth, not a blade in his hand. This is a journey into the hard questions of violence in the Bible, in search of the Prince of Peace on the other side.
