The Art of Exodus
3 sermons by Rev. Dr. Cyril Guerette in the series The Art of Exodus, preached 2018, with audio and a quote from each.
After Easter we take a moment to reflect on the beauty of God and the story he is writing with humanity. Since the first instance of terraforming, and the sculpting of us in his own image, God has made the aesthetic dimension of our lives integral to our relationship with our Creator. In the Book of Exodus we discover an oft-neglected theme, that human creativity was to be part of the worship of Yahweh in all its winsome varieties. From the garments and ornaments, to the horns and trumpets, all the gifts of God’s people were called upon. And yet, there was the danger of idolatry always lurking, trying to call us away from the possibility of our experiencing the Glory of the Lord. And yet when we truly give the fruit of our creative juices to God, we most reflect his imago, and find the Spirit of the Lord is upon us.
