Minor Chords: Songs of Mercy & Justice
3 sermons by Rev. Dr. Cyril Guerette in the series Minor Chords: Songs of Mercy & Justice, preached 2016, with audio and a quote from each.
The Minor Prophets were major voices in the Kingdoms of Judah and Israel. They were protest poets who spoke truth to power. Their prophecies served as picket signs - striking back against the Empire. Their messages were dissonant, consistently calling God’s people out for violating their covenant promises. These prophets could not see injustice and keep quiet, or be bought out by the wealthy and political elites. God desires mercy amidst our affluence, and justice for the powerless. The religious trappings of songs and prayers do not satisfy the Lord, he calls us to genuine actions of love, mercy and righteousness.
