The Sleepy Church

Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; hold it fast, and repent. But if you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what time I will come to you.
— Revelation 3:3
“And then he says this, I found your deeds unfinished. Remember, because I know your deeds, your deeds are unfinished. You didn't get the job done. Now again, this is really interesting because I talked earlier about the temple to Artemis. to Artemis, and Artemis is a very famous goddess and in those times there was some dark painting in worship of her. If you remember Ephesus? The whole trouble that started out when Paul went and preached and then the silver smith would create little trinkets and idols for the goddess Artemis and they had a riot against Paul because they were so worried that they were going to endanger the worship of Artemis there. Well that temple in Sardis was just as big as the temple that was in Ephesus. But guess what happened to that temple? They never finished it. Sardis never finished the temple to Artemis, the giant temple, and neither has the church finished its proper worship to Christ. It's a powerful thing if you think about it. … They had begun well, but they are not completing it. If you remember, Jesus says in the Gospels that you can never put your hand to the plow and turn back, and they are very much in the danger of having done it. This church, in many ways, is a church that's on the precipice.”
