The Father's Family

Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.

“Caring for your family, physical family, is part of what it means to follow Jesus. But more importantly than all this is the fact that God is a family. God is a family. As a Christian, I've seen throughout scripture, time and time again — we talk about the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit; those baptizing names. We see the Father is the one sending the Son; the Son comes, and he gives the Holy Spirit. There's this connection between those three persons. Then Christians recognize that in scripture the Father is called God, the Son is called God, and the Spirit is called God, and so somehow God himself is three persons: Father, Son, and Spirit. And this is a family. Now, it's not three different gods. One God — the essence, we'll call it, the Godhead. The Godhead is a family of three persons loving each other. God doesn't need anyone in order to be loving. He is love itself, within himself. It's a relationship. God is a relationship. This is a really important concept, because when you recognize that, you can understand why it's so amazing that we get to be part of the family of God: because God is family. He's relational. God has love as part of his mysterious, Trinitarian being. And we can't miss that, because the very nature of God is family. Now, let's be true about family.”
