Union with Christ
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
“As we live out of this, as we have God's perspective, as the qualities of the divine being are lived out through us, as we know them with our hearts and not just with our minds — let them become powerful parts of our experience of what it means to be a follower of Jesus. There's so many aspects to the union we can talk about. Augustus Strong has another take on it. He talks about an organic union — this idea that we are — to gather — part of the body of Christ, and in Christ together. There's a vital union. This is the idea that the life of Christ is pumping through us. There's that spiritual union again — the idea that the Holy Spirit himself is in us, and that's what connects us to Christ. That's how Christ lives in us: through the Holy Spirit. It's an indissoluble union. This will never be destroyed. Nothing can separate you from the love of Christ. Christ is within you, and living in power through you. It's an inscrutable union, though. This means that we can never understand the union. This is deeper than we can ever understand, because this surpasses our knowledge. This is God himself living in and through us.”Browse the full sermon archive →
