Walking On Water

"Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water." "Come," he said.
— Matthew 14:28–29
“Even though his faith fails, he also is encouraging others' faith. Isn't that a crazy thing when you think about it? This is the very first time in the book of Matthew where human beings call Jesus the Son of God. Because Peter is walking on the water, and seeing what Jesus can do with him and restoring his faith and all that, bringing him back on the boat — when they see all of that, they finally go, ding. Jesus is the Son of God. And Peter's whole part of that is very important. Peter's faith was not perfect, but it was worth it. Peter's faith was not consistent, but it was already greater than the other disciples. He's the only one who steps out of the boat. The others kind of want to watch at a distance. … Not bad for a little faith, is it? And what would us as we walk, even if we fail — what can he accomplish? This is why it's so important for our own restoration project to recognize the act of faith following the call of God. Every single person who has decided to follow Jesus truly is given the Holy Spirit, and that Holy Spirit within our hearts is on a restoration project. We're in continual renovation, continual recreation. And sometimes Jesus just calls us to do something that seems impossible.”
