The Beauty of Truth (Westside Church)

“And what's even more profound is Augustine writes this book as a prayer to God. The whole thing is a prayer. An entire novel's worth of writing is a prayer to God, and this is something I wanted to point out because when he speaks about the power of truth and the power of beauty in God, it's something I think the church has missed. When we talk about philosophy, and we talk about a Jesus philosophy, we often forget that we need to recognize both the truth and the beauty of God. Because God is more beautiful than any other thing you can think of or perceive, and yet God is the most hardcore true statement that you could ever hear. And when you hear these together in powerful ways, something happens, and what Augustine really believed was that when we speak our language, participates in God, he'd say. And so I want to talk a little bit about how our language, how our thoughts, how our lives can actually participate in the truth of God and in the beauty of God.”
